.com, .net, .org or .mx: how to choose

Compare four extensions before choosing your project’s name.

The extension should make the address clearer

A good choice combines a clear brand with an extension your audience recognises. None of these extensions guarantees sales or a particular Google ranking. Start with your market, activity and how easy the whole name is to remember and spell.

.com: a broad identity

.com is a flexible choice for brands and businesses across products and markets. If the exact name is taken, compare short variations and other extensions before adding filler words. Domain availability is not permission to use a trademark.

.net and .org: meaning and expectations

.net is frequently used for services and technology projects. .org is often associated with organisations and communities but does not establish legal status. Choose an extension that represents your activity without misleading visitors.

.mx: a focus on the Mexican market

.mx is Mexico’s country-code extension. It may suit a business primarily serving that market. If you also operate internationally, plan languages, content and contacts so each audience finds relevant information.

Make a complete comparison

Review registration and renewal costs, test how the name sounds and check for confusion with existing businesses. If you register several extensions, choose one primary address and use redirects where appropriate. One consistent, maintained website is more useful than several duplicate copies.
